Everything you need to know if you’re planning on preserving your wedding bouquet

If you are thinking about getting your wedding bouquet preserved, there are a few things to consider to ensure your flowers can be successfully pressed with us. Here's is a guide to help you plan and prepare for your bouquet to be preserved for years to come.

Choosing the right flowers for your wedding bouquet

The first step to preserving your bouquet is selecting the right flowers. Bright, colourful and ‘strong’ flowers have the best outcome when pressed (by ‘outcome’ I mean colour retention).

Whilst delicate and light coloured flowers can be pressed, unfortunately there are some flowers that just don’t press well. Reach out to us to get some guidance on this, and be sure to let your florist know that you will be getting your wedding bouquet preserved.

Book your bouquet preservation in as soon as possible!

This is so, so important. There are timeframes in which we need to receive your bouquet (no later than 72 hours, the sooner the better), so that your flowers are still fresh and in good enough condition to be pressed. If your flowers have started to die and are wilting, they will turn brown when pressed.

I am also only able preserve a few bouquets at a time due to it being a very delicate and slow process.

Taking extra care of your bouquet on the day of your wedding

As touched on above, the fresher your bouquet is when I receive it, the better the outcome once your flowers are fully dried. I recommend doing the following to keep your flowers fresh on the day of your wedding:

  • Ask your florist to provide a vase to keep your bouquet in throughout the day. If As a wedding florist, I always provide vases for your bridal bouquet and your bridesmaids bouquets to be kept in throughout the day. When you’re ready to put your bouquet down, make sure it is kept in the vase with fresh water.

  • Keep your bouquet out of direct sunlight and heat

  • Please don't throw your bouquet! - unfortunately if getting your bouquet preserved is important to you then this is a big no no. Throwing your bouquet will lead to your bouquet becoming damaged and bruised which will lead to browning when pressed.

I know you already have a lot to think about when planning your wedding, but following these small steps will allow you to to capture the beauty and significance of your big day, ensuring that those precious memories will never fade.
